Changes in the motorcycle industry and market trends

Motorcycle sales (including estimates) in 111 countries in 2022 fell by 2.7% year-on-year to 55.22 million units (with a significant revision in the Chinese Motorcycle Dealers Association’s tally of electric motorcycles). While sales were up by 1.47 million units in India and 1.07 million units in seven ASEAN countries, they were down by 2.39 million units in China, which has a zero-corona policy, and by 1.75 million units in Africa, where foreign currency restrictions have been tightened due to a weak currency, resulting in a clear difference between countries and regions. As a result, India’s share of global motorcycle sales in 2022 by country was 29.0%, up 3.3 percentage points year-on-year, and ASEAN’s share was 22.5%, up 2.5 percentage points year-on-year, accounting for more than 50% of global motorcycle sales. China, which, like India, accounted for a quarter of global motorcycle sales in 2021 due to a significant re-description of electric two-wheelers, fell back to 21.6% in 2022, down 3.6 percentage points on the same year.
This annual research report reports on the latest changes in the motorcycle industry and market trends at a global level. It is recommended for use by companies involved in the motorcycle business.
