China’s Xiaomi launches high-performance sedan BEV SU7
On 28 March 2024, Chinese smartphone and tablet manufacturer Xiaomi (Xiaomi) launched its first entry into the automotive industry in China.
Xiaomi’s high-performance sedan BEV SU7 competes with the Porsche Taycan, Tesla Model 3 and others. Prices range from RMB 215,900,000 (USD 4.5 million) to RMB 299,900,000 (USD 6.3 million), with a cruising range (CLTC) of 700-830 km.
It is not unusual in China for non-automotive OEMs to launch vehicles. However, the Xiaomi SU7 has attracted attention for its excellent cost performance, with a minimum price of approximately 4.5 million Japanese yen, despite being the latest model incorporating a number of new technologies.
Technologically, there are many things to look out for, including the latest digital cockpit, a high-performance drive system and automatic driving level 2+ standard ADAS.
The car is equipped with many of the latest technologies, including 9,100t Gigacast components and a 21,000 rpm motor. Despite this, the selling price is well below the competition, and the car is attracting a lot of attention for its impressive value for money.
The core components that support these technologies are handled by major suppliers in Europe and the USA, which also shows the high quality of the product.
