Germany lends shelter to China and loses its main house
Chinese BEV manufacturers seem to be unstoppable, and at the IAA Mobility 2023 in Munich, Germany, last week, they seemed to have overwhelmed their German counterparts.
The Germans were wary before the event of Chinese companies announcing new technologies and dominating booths (the largest booth at this year’s event was occupied by China’s BYD), and were originally reluctant to exhibit for fear that their presence would be diluted. The Germans were also sceptical about the state of the car show in this respect, as the IAA has been plagued in recent years by radical protests by environmental activists.
As a result, the Chinese, who exhibited in large numbers without regard to these issues, took all the good parts of the show. It was as if a slap in the face was about to be fired at us: “Who would be stupid enough to think about losing before we even get out? We hope to learn from this at the Japan Mobility Show to be held next month.
