Ministry of the Environment’s “Used Clothing Collection Demonstration Project
Gamagori City, Aichi Prefecture, ECOMMIT Corporation, and Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. will conduct the following demonstration project, having been selected to collaborate on the “Model Demonstration Project for Construction of Used Clothing Collection System in FY2024”.
◼️ “PASSTO,” a resource circulation service that performs collection, sorting, and redistribution of unwanted items in one integrated process
PASSTO” is a system that creates a cycle of “reuse and recycling” by “collecting” unneeded items that are no longer in use, “sorting” them for optimal use, and “re-activating” them. It is a coined word shortened from “PASS TO” and means “to pass on to the next person, to pass on to the future. By becoming the entrance to the resource circulation closest to our daily lives, we aim to realize the circular economy by providing a place where students can more easily participate in the resource circulation and an alternative to “throwing away”.
Gamagori City
Gamagori City aims to be a city of well-being, and is promoting a “Zero Carbon City” that aims to achieve zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, and a “Circular City” that actively promotes the circular economy throughout the region. The public and private sectors are actively working together to reuse, recycle, and otherwise recycle resources.
ECOMMIT Inc.
ECOMMIT is a circulation trading company that realizes an infrastructure for the circulation of goods through business in order to “realize a society that does not throw things away. ECOMMIT has seven recycling centers located throughout Japan, where it collects, sorts, and redistributes unneeded items. Furthermore, ECOMMIT provides comprehensive services to promote sustainability for companies and municipalities by calculating reuse/recycling rates and reporting on CO2 reductions through its self-developed traceability system that converts the “flow of goods” into data.
Chubu Electric Power Co.
Chubu Electric Power Company is working to meet the needs for “decarbonization,” “decentralization and recycling,” and “resilience (safety and security)” toward 2050 by participating in community development, expanding the scope of community-based services, and participating in businesses that realize optimal recycling of energy and resources, while placing importance on partnerships with local residents. We will provide “new forms of community” and contribute to the realization of a safe, secure, and resilient society in which it is easy to live. (1) Details of implementation
Gamagori City, ECOMMIT Corporation, and Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. will establish clothing collection points along the city’s transportation routes by using the PASSTO resource recycling service to secure the volume of clothing collected and establish a collection system within the city. Furthermore, by having citizens participate in this project, they will be aware that they are contributing to a zero-carbon city and a circular city, and will be encouraged to change their awareness and behavior in order to create a sustainable city.
