Next-generation mobility and town planning through the ‘co-creation’ of residents, local businesses and government

In Japan and abroad, efforts are being made to increase the value of the entire region by integrating mobility and urban development together with residents.

In Europe, town planning that expands pedestrian space is attracting attention, while in Japan, initiatives to revitalise the entire region through the use of automated buses and organic collaboration between residents and businesses are being promoted, mainly by local authorities. How will these initiatives change the nature of local mobility and town planning in the future? This section considers how residents can get involved in town planning, how local government and administration can take the lead, and how to create a framework with operators and the people involved.

How to consider the benefits for operators and residents, and how to strike a balance between the two, are some of the points that need to be considered when thinking about mobility and town planning in the future. This is an opportunity to deepen knowledge for local authorities, transport operators such as railways, buses and shared mobility, car manufacturers, component manufacturers, technology and platform-related companies, consultants, think tanks and government officials who are creating the next generation of mobility and local value.

The event will also introduce a variety of mobility case studies from the cutting-edge experimental city of Barcelona, Spain, as well as the efforts to promote automated driving, MaaS and regional DX through the co-creation of local authorities, residents and businesses by designing a ‘way forward’ that involves local residents and businesses in Shiojiri City. The seminar will consider the next generation of mobility and urban development through the ‘co-creation’ of residents, local businesses and government, introducing how residents can be involved in urban development and how local government and administration can take the lead.
