Fukui Umbrellas was founded in 1972 in Fukui Prefecture, which has a long history as an umbrella-making centre, with more than 800 umbrella manufacturers in its heyday. While other companies in the industry were forced to close their businesses due to the changing times, the company has gained many fans for its thorough customer orientation and high-quality products, and has made a name for itself both in Japan and abroad as one of the few remaining manufacturers of hand-made umbrellas in the country.
In January 2023, the company will open its first directly-managed shop in the Haneda Airport Garden, directly connected to Haneda Airport. It is a company in the spotlight. In addition, the company is striving to realise an ‘Umbrella Village’, a production centre where Fukui Prefecture’s traditional craft techniques are concentrated.
