Sumitomo Forestry receives the highest rating in S&P’s The Sustainability Yearbook – 2024 Rankings

Sumitomo Forestry Co., Ltd. has been selected as one of the top 1% of companies in the housing construction industry in the S&P The Sustainability Yearbook – 2024 Rankings, a sustainability rating by S&P Global, a world-renowned research and rating company in the USA. This is the sixth consecutive year that the company has received the highest rating.

S&P Global evaluates the economic, environmental and social performance of more than 9,400 of the world’s leading companies, of which 759 are included in the S&P The Sustainability Yearbook – 2024 Rankings as ‘highly sustainable companies’. The list includes 759 companies from Japan and the United States. Eighty-three Japanese companies are listed.

Since the launch of The Sustainability Yearbook in 2008, we have been listed as a ‘Sustainable Company’ in the house-building industry for 17 consecutive years. This year, six Japanese companies, including our company, were selected as among the ‘Top 1%’ in their respective sectors.
In addition, we have been selected as a constituent of the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and the Dow Jones Sustainability Asia Pacific Index, global ESG investment equity indices selected based on S&P Global’s scores. The Sumitomo Forestry Group is a member of the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and Dow Jones Sustainability Asia Pacific Index.

The Sumitomo Forestry Group has formulated its long-term vision, Mission TREEING 2030, with a view to 2030, which is also the SDG target year. The long-term vision identifies nine key issues from the perspectives of ‘value to the global environment’, ‘value to people and society’ and ‘value to the market economy’. The medium-term management plan ‘Mission TREEING 2030 Phase 1’ (2022-2024) sets ‘further integration of business and ESG’ as one of its basic policies and defines the ‘Medium-term Management Plan Sustainability Edition 2024’, which incorporates sustainability strategies and key issues. Through the achievement of the targets set for each key issue, we are meeting the expectations of society, including the SDGs, and contributing to the realisation of a sustainable society.
