Suzuki unveils its first battery electric vehicle, e VITARA, in India
Suzuki has unveiled its first battery electric vehicle (BEV), the e VITARA, to the public at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 in New Delhi, India, from 17 January 2025.
The e VITARA is Suzuki’s first BEV global strategic model, which was first unveiled in Milan, Italy, in November 2024. e VITARA is a global model of BEV and will be produced at the Gujarat plant of Suzuki’s subsidiary Maruti Suzuki India Pvt Ltd (Maruti Suzuki) from spring 2025, with production starting in 2025 The model will be gradually launched in India, Europe, Japan and other countries around the world from around the summer of 2025.
The mass-produced model with Indian domestic specifications has now been unveiled for the first time. At a press conference held on 17 April, Maruti Suzuki announced its initiatives to promote the use of BEVs in India. Utilising Maruti Suzuki’s sales and service network in India, the company will promote the development of an environment where customers can use BEVs with peace of mind, including recharging facilities.
President Suzuki said: ‘In announcing the first of Suzuki’s BEV global strategic models, we have listened to our customers to understand what they want from BEVs. We will then make the most of our resources here in India to build a BEV ecosystem, including a charging network, so that they can choose a BEV with peace of mind. The e VITARA is the first step towards energy minimisation, as outlined in our recently announced ‘Technology Strategy for the Next 10 Years’. Suzuki will continue to move forward towards a sustainable future in India and around the world.’
