Thailand aims to promote renewable energy

Carbon neutrality and net zero are important goals for all those seeking to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases harmful to the planet.
emissions that are harmful to the planet.

The issue is on the agenda at the international level, with every country and major corporation setting out carbon reduction strategies, deadlines and specific targets. Renewable energy plays a part in achieving this goal.

Thailand is also aiming to become carbon neutral and has policies in place to shift from conventional to electric vehicles and increase the proportion of renewable energy. In addition, incentives have been granted for the installation of roof-mounted photovoltaic installations. The recently introduced Utility Green Tariff (UGT) aims to increase the proportion of clean energy used by businesses, with the Government purchasing electricity generated from renewable energy sources under the Power Development Plan and selling it to industrial users at regulated prices.

This allows purchasers to choose green electricity from specific or unspecified sources to complement their goal of achieving carbon neutrality. All such power producers are accredited by the Ministry of Energy based on international standards.

Thailand will be the first ASEAN country to offer a comprehensive service for the production, procurement and certification of green power for industrial use, including an overview of UGT and the benefits gained by operators, and Thailand’s advantages as a production location that meets carbon reduction strategies and global standards.
