Thinking about sustainable mobility from Coldplay concerts.
Coldplay is taking sustainability into account in this concert tour, which will continue from 2022.
For example, used batteries from BMW i3s are being used to store electricity for the concerts. Audience members were also able to pedal storage bicycles set up in the venue. A mechanism was also provided to measure the CO2 footprint of the audience’s journey to the venue and share the environmental impact, making use of SAP’s application technology.
Of course, many sustainable means of transport are also used for the band members and their equipment. They are experimenting with BEVs for transport to the venue, biofuels for trucking equipment and SAF for air travel.
There have also been efforts to curb waste by using recycled bottles by audience members at venues.
Coldplay has set a target for this world tour to reduce direct CO2 emissions from live shows, transport and member and staff travel by 50% compared to the previous tour; as of the first announcement in June 2023, CO2 emissions have been reduced by 47%.
